We had a power outage yesterday and my computer crashed. Now I can't open Photoshop. It flashes a small black window for half a second and then nothing. The icon on the desktop has been replaced with a thumbnail of a screenshot image. If I re-install it, what will happen to the Photoshop files I have saved on my hard drive? Do I need to uninstall everything first? Thanks so much for your help!
You need to un-install and then re-install your copy of Photoshop.
If you're running Windows XP...
Choose Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
The Add or Remove Programs dialog box opens.
It may take a moment for the programs list to populate.
Scroll down and select Photoshop.
Click the Change/Remove button.
Photoshop and all of its components are removed.
Now you can re-install Photoshop.
Have your serial number ready.
Don't worry about any .psd files you may have been working on. They have nothing to do with the application. Since you've been backing up your important digital files on CDs or DVDs regularly...no worries. You have been backing up? Haven't you?
