I need to resize a bunch of photos so that they are all the same, 640 x 480 at 72 ppi. They are all different now. Any suggestions?
Start by selecting the Rectangular Marquee tool.
Choose Fixed Aspect Ratio from the Styles: dropdown in the tools Option bar.
Enter 480 for the Height and 640 for the Width.
Use the Marquee tool as if you were cropping.
Click and drag to select the appropriate image area.
With the selection active, choose Image > Crop
The image is cropped to the correct aspect ratio.
Now you need to resize the image and change the resolution.
Choose Image > Image Size
The Image Size dialog box appears.
Deselect the Resample Image option.
Enter 72 in the Resolution section.
Reselect the Resample Image and Constrain Proportions options.
Enter 640 in the Width.
480 is automatically entered in the Height because you cropped the image to the Aspect Ratio previously.
I created an Action for the second step, however I suggest doing the Crop manually. Some things just shouldn't be automated.
